Sohn Kee-Chung...
In 1936, Sohn Kee-Chung won the Berlin Olympic Marathon. An amazing feat and the first medal awarded to a Korean citizen. In his honor, the Son Ji-Jeong Athletic Park was created and is located in the Jungnim neighborhood of Seoul...
Participating within the Japanese Empire, Sohn ran under a psuedonym, Son Kitei. It was said at the medal ceremony, Sohn wept upon seeing the Japanese flag and hearing its national anthem. Record books continue to credit Japan with his victory.
Sohn passed in 2002 and was buried at the Daejeon National Cemetery
