Just "next door" to Camp Casey is the Mt. Soyo (소요산) National Park. For a change from treadmill/cycling at the gym, I opted to run* outdoors heading to Mt. Soyo. The goal was an hour-long run and to explore the area a bit.Following a sidewalk along Hwy 3 and turning right at Soyosan Station, I followed the road up to the park entrance. The nice lady at the gate waved me in without a fee and I ran up to Chajaeam (자재암) on a paved trail.
Chajaeam (or Jajaeam) is a Buddhist temple built in 645 AD by High Priest Wonhyo (원효) to mark where he reached enlightenment. The surroundings are picturesque--forests, granite cliffs, streams and waterfalls. The round trip run was 6.5 miles.
