The Shootist...

Today was our "once every six months" M9 qualification using the Baretta 9 mm pistol. Eight magazines of forty rounds shot at seven pop-up targets is pretty much the standard fare. We are marched to our respective lanes and upon command open fire on those cool "up and down" green men.

Army cooks, soldiers, even dentists have to qualify to stay employed. The brigade commander, a colonel, was driven to the range and stepped out brandishing a cool side arm... George Patton-style. He was part of our qualification group.

Knowing I'm a right-handed, "left eye dominant" shooter I make myself aim with my left eye closed and voila... I hit targets! This is my second qualification to date and it's a lot of fun! Upon finishing, we learn from the tower that I out shot the colonel by one target. A very quiet victory.

Wearing kevlar helmets, flack jackets, eye protection and gloves are required on the range but I found the most handy items were my ear plugs! (Note: Dustin will not hit targets shooting like this!)
