International Committee of the Red Cross...

This week, Camp Cropper was visited by the ICRC... as part of their bi-annual evaluation and summation of Cropper TIF detainees.

Thus far, no egregious violations have been noted and all appears within normal limits. Many of our detainee guards from the CSH have been assigned escort detail for the visiting ICRC staff.

While the stigma of Abu Ghraib and early Cropper era has been hard to shake, humane and courteous treatment of insurgent detainees has been the standard for the last 4 years.

All the while, I read of complaints of prisoner abuse at al Muthana Air Base just 400 meters from Cropper toward BIAP. Both the Los Angeles Times and Al Jazeera report of numerous violations within a "secret Iraqi prison."

But as American and Coalition Forces continue to draw down and turn over assets to the Iraqi National Army and the Government of Iraq, what will happen in the wake of our occupation? Already stories filter within the ranks of terrible conditions at former US prisons in Bucca and Taji now under GOI control.
